“I own you. I have the piece of paper to prove it. It’s undeniable and unbreakable. You belong to me until you’ve paid off your debts.”
Nila Weaver’s family is indebted. Being the first born daughter, her life is forfeit to the first born son of the Hawks to pay for sins of ancestors past. The dark ages might have come and gone, but debts never leave. She has no choice in the matter.
She is no longer free.
Jethro Hawk receives Nila as an inheritance present on his twenty-ninth birthday. Her life is his until she’s paid off a debt that’s centuries old. He can do what he likes with her — nothing is out of bounds — she has to obey.
There are no rules. Only payments.
This is a book, which can be read only at night. Or at least, I think so.
I’ve finished this first book from the series in 2 night long reading. Well, 3 hours in night. And I’m not going to write that I’m impressed. Yes, the story is potential, but this is probably the only good thing in it.
What to say about the characters… Let me see. I’m gonna start with Nila – an idiotic 24 years old almost-virgin, sexting with an unknown guy, in the meanwhile being a fashion designer in her first own show with her brother and her father, who always protect her from other men. She prefer sewing and obviously have no interest in other things, of course excluding sex, which she had only once and she was drunk.
On the other side we can see Jethro. He is an ice cold son of a b***h, who “stole” Nila from her family with only one idea to make her pay her family’s debts. He is strong, without feelings (well, actually he pretends that he have no feelings) and is more than sure that his family owns Weaver’s. Also he loves power and can’t wait to take his father’s place.
There’s no romance, only erotic movements, abuse and bdsm. There’s debts to be paid, there’s diamonds, but first Nila must be aquintenced with the story, happened 600 years ago and a paper signed – the debt inheritance.
What I can say it that I really didn’t expected that this recognition will be like this. And what I can say is that Pepper Winters absolutely have very dirty mind. I had read erotic books before, but this was way too much…
The book is with an open end, getting us ready for the hunt. And even if I don’t really liked this first book, if I have a chance, I’ll read the other books as well. Just because I’m curious. Not that this make sense, but whatever…
All in all, not a bad story, but I’m not gonna recommend it to anyone. Well, maybe only to people, who like bdsm…
General note: 2.5/10
